In this vibrant and affecting Audience Award nominee at Glasgow, newly divorced 72-year-old Violeta proves that rebelliousness knows no age when finances threaten her newfound freedom.
Hilda Hidalgo’s (“Of Love and Shadows”) latest feature follows Violeta as she starts a new and exciting stage in her life. She happily lives in her childhood house in Costa Rica where she tends to her lush tropical garden. Determined to enjoy her newfound freedom, she takes swimming lessons and rents out a room to her instructor, a middle-aged Mexican man with dreams of his own. But when she applies for a loan to turn her property into a boarding house, she discovers the bank is about to repossess it.
With an intimate perspective, the film traces the journey of an iconoclastic woman who is willing to break the rules to hold onto her home and her freedom.
